arles war nicht weit vom mittelmeer entfernt . anfang juni 1888 Vincent besuchte das fischerdorf von Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer wo , in wenigen tagen , er produzierte zwei seestücke , eine ansicht des dorfes und neun zeichnungen . er schrieb an theo über eine der seestücke : “ ich habe die boote gezeichnet, als ich sehr früh am morgen abreiste , und ich arbeite jetzt an einem darauf basierenden gemälde , a größe 30 leinwand mit mehr meer und himmel auf der rechten seite . Es war, bevor die boote eilten ; Ich hatte sie jeden morgen beobachtet , aber da sie sehr früh abreisen ich didn’t zeit haben, sie zu malen . ”
